How did he build a helicopter? an illiterate 25 year old Kenyan man from Kisumu County has become the talk of the city after he single-handedly built a helicopter.Interestingly, Fredrick Onyango has zero classroom experience. It is being alleged that he can barely put words together to complete a sentence in writing. But that has not stopped him from pursuing his dreams.“I came to Nairobi about 10 years ago and started life as street boy. Along the way, I developed skills in electronics and other stuff,”says Onyango.

His helicopter, which is being engineered somewhere along Quarry Road in Ngara, is reportedly undergoing final touches.Sources privy to the peculiar innovation say the chopper has been under construction for nearly eight months now. However, it is yet to be tested to see if it can actually fly, even though theengine can be heard roaring.

Onyango, a father of three, says he trained himself by dismantling and fixing old computers, during which he eventually developed strong interests inelectronics and computer hardware.“When I was starting, I used buy spoilt and disposed hard disks, study them then fix them. The old devices cost between Ksh50 and Ksh100. But once I repaired them, I could sell them for about Ksh1,000,”he says.His ingenuity has earned him more thanjust a living. He is now a celebrity and a well-known engineer for that matter.He has also proven that you can still make it in life even if you never had the privilege to go through school and acquire one of those powerful degrees.
